Amanda Seyfried has revealed she would love to see Sydney Sweeney join the cast of a potential Mamma Mia 3, saying the rising star would bring fresh energy to the beloved musical franchise.

Seyfried, who has played Sophie since the first film, mentioned Sweeney during a recent interview and praised her talent and screen presence. She added that younger actors could help expand the series for a new generation of viewers.

The actresses recently worked together on The Housemaid, a Paul Feig-directed thriller set for release on 19 December. Their upcoming project has already prompted fans to imagine how Sweeney might fit into the world of Mamma Mia.

Seyfried also floated another casting idea, imagining a storyline where a previously unknown family member joins the mix. She suggested Sabrina Carpenter could take on that kind of role, saying the singer and actress would be a fun addition to the ensemble.

Speculation about a third Mamma Mia film has been circulating for years, with several original cast members expressing interest in returning. However, there has been no official confirmation from producers about whether the project is moving ahead.

Sweeney has not responded to the casting chatter, but her recent run of high-profile films and series has made her one of Hollywood’s busiest young actors.

For now, fans continue to hope the franchise will return with a blend of familiar favourites and new faces.
