LAHORE: The Lahore district administration has officially announced the celebration of Basant 2026 from February 6 to 8, with kite flying permitted under strict safety regulations. A notification in this regard has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner Lahore.

According to the notification, Basant celebrations and kite flying will be allowed only within the limits of Lahore district during the three designated days. The production, delivery, and storage of kite-flying equipment will be permitted from December 30 until February 8.

The administration has made online registration of kites and strings mandatory. Registration of manufacturers and traders on the e-Biz application will begin from December 9, and all registered traders will be required to prominently display their registration certificates at their business premises. Traders must also maintain complete records of stock, sales, and delivery of kite-flying equipment.

The sale of kite-flying equipment to the public will be allowed from February 1 to February 8. Kite-flying associations have been directed to work in close coordination with the concerned Deputy Commissioners.

The notification also defines strict limits on kite sizes. The maximum allowed size includes a kite width of 35 inches and length of 30 inches, while another specified category allows a width of up to 40 inches and length of 34 inches. Kites exceeding these dimensions will not be permitted.

A complete ban has been imposed on chemical strings and spinning wheels. Only cotton strings will be allowed, fitted with 30 to 35 mesh glass beads. Strings may be sold only in the form of a “pana,” while the use of spinning wheels is strictly prohibited. The administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against bloody strings, sharp beads, and nylon or plastic strings.

To prevent accidents, the installation of safety wires on all motorcycles operating within Lahore district during Basant has been made mandatory.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza said that ensuring the safety of human lives is the administration’s top priority and that no negligence will be tolerated. He urged parents to play their role in preventing children from using prohibited kite strings.

The DC further stated that law-abiding citizens will be provided full protection, while strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the rules.
