WEB DESK: Bollywood spy film Dhurandhar or rather a very in-your-face propaganda attempt has been gaining traction ever since its release earlier this month. Apart from being surrounded with controversies in both India and Pakistan, the film has now led to a funny trend in India where content creators are making videos of themselves captioned as ‘First day as spy in Pakistan’. The trend becomes funny because it’s a take on Indians revealing themselves and breaking their character by saying something which is very core to their identity.
Although the ‘Muslim’ characters in Dhurandhar still adhere to norms which are followed by select few communities in Pakistan, the trend remains humourous because it plays on cultural specific Hindu norms, also perhaps implying that the spy sent by India would be a Hindu and not a Muslim. The videos follow a similar format with Karavan playing in the background.
For instance, in one of the videos, the ‘spy’ is moving stealthily but ends up paying his regards to the poster of a monkey on the wall implying the Hindu god, Hanuman. The video ends with the character realising and thus getting shot for getting identified.
Another one shows the character saying ‘salam’ to Rahman Dakait but touching his feet to show respect and getting caught because that doesn’t happen in Pakistan.
