ISLAMABAD: Former PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday warned that the federal government could impose governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if the state of affairs didn’t return to normalcy, as a video of May 9 protests went viral on social media in which Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is also visible.
On the other hand, Federal Minister Amir Muqam said the government was ready to sit together with everyone to establish peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — a province that has witnessed the return of terrorism after the Imran Khan-led PTI government decided to resettle the TTP terrorists in Pakistan.

Fawad’s remarks came on a day where Ikhtiar Wali — coordinator to the prime minister — uploaded on X a post from the Facebook page of Afridi in which he is seen leading the mob which attacked the corps commander’s house in Peshawar during the May 9 protests.
Meanwhile, Ikhtiar Wali also announced the forensic check of the video would prove everything as the PTI is claiming that the said clip is fake — a move which Amir Muqam also backed.
RISING POLITICAL TEMPERATURE
Neither the situation can be normalised nor the country will move forward without decreasing the political temperature, said Fawad while expressing views in “Question Hour” — a HUM News primetime talk show hosted by Mona Alam.
For this purpose, Fawad who served as minister in the cabinet of Imran, suggested that the government should provide an opportunity to the “genuine leadership” of PTI.
He said the current PTI leadership had done nothing for the party or Imran — its founding chairman who is languishing in Adiala jail after being convicted on corruption charges.
Imran is also accused of masterminding the May 9 violent protests and nominated in multiple cases, including the one related to the GHQ attack.
The genuine PTI leaders should be allowed to meet the party founder in prison, Fawad said, but made it clear that the ongoing efforts to improve political affairs aren’t based upon the party platform.
“Our effort is to find a better path for Pakistan,” he told Mona Alam.
Meanwhile, Amir Muqam also participated in the “Question Hour” and said it was necessary to have all the provincial governments [and political parties leading these] on the same page for national security.

The federal minister regretted that the PTI did not show serious attitude in the meeting held on national security.
It’s worth recalling that the PTI founder and his party are against military operations against the TTP and other terrorist groups and Afridi — Imran’s newest choice to run the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — is a staunch advocate of this policy.
AFRIDI LEADING THE ARMED GROUPS
In an earlier post on X, Ikhtiar Wali said the video showing Afridi armed groups during the May 9 protests have raised several questions.
While giving a detailed account of the May 9 events, the senior PML-N leader from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said Afridi’s stance towards the federal government was nothing but blackmailing.
Afridi’s confrontational policy is tantamount to destabilising the country and there is no room for this the country’s constitution, he remarked.
