Field Marshal in Egypt, for eradicating extremist ideologies

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir in Egypt discussed “matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and bilateral defence cooperation”, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Thursday, as he held meetings with the Egyptian leaders and stressed the need for eradicating “extremist ideologies”.
“The visit is aimed at enhancing military cooperation and defence collaboration” between Pakistan and Egypt which the ISPR described as “the two brotherly countries”.

During his current visit, it added, the army chief “called on Egyptian Minister of Defence and Defence Production, Gen Abdul Maged Saqar and Chief of Staff of Egyptian Armed Forces Lt-Gen Ahmed Khalifa Fateh.
Field Marshal Asim Munir “affirmed that Egypt is a brotherly country and cooperation between both the two states will not only benefit the people of both the states but will also contribute towards achieving peace and stability in the region”.

As the army chief arrived at the Ministry of Defence, the hosts warmly welcomed him with the Guard of Honour. He also laid floral wreath at Memorial of Unknown Soldier and the grave of Late President Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat.

ERADICATING EXTREMIST IDEOLOGIES
Separately, the army chief also met Grand Imam of Al Azhar His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed El Tayab. The meeting was held at Mashaikhat Al Azhar Al Sharif, the administrative headquarters of the institution.
The grand imam shared his views on challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah as the Field Marshal highlighted the need to eradicate extremist ideologies and contorted interpretations of Islam.
