John Robertson, who was ex-Nottingham Forest and Scotland, winger dies aged 72

LONDON: World-famous football player John Robertson, who was an ex-Nottingham Forest and Scotland winger, died aged 72.

John Robertson won the European Cup twice at Forest, providing the assist in the 1979 final and then scoring the winner in the 1980 final.

The deceased football player won 28 caps for Scotland and had appeared at two World Cups (1978 and 1982), scoring in a 5-2 victory over New Zealand at the 1982 finals in Spain.

Robertson had both begun and ended his career at the City Ground.

While paying tribute to him, Nottingham Forest said on their X account, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Nottingham Forest legend and dear friend, John Robertson.”

Describing his playing for the club, it added that the deceased played was “a true great of our Club and a double European Cup winner, John’s unrivalled talent, humility and unwavering devotion to Nottingham Forest will never be forgotten”.

“Our thoughts are with John’s family, friends and all who loved him. Rest in peace, Robbo… Our greatest”.
