‘Madden’ teaser reveals Nicolas Cage as NFL icon John Madden

The first teaser for Madden has dropped, offering an early look at Nicolas Cage as legendary NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden.

Released by Amazon MGM Studios on Christmas Day, the teaser introduces Cage in full transformation mode, portraying the larger-than-life figure who helped shape American football on and off the field. Madden famously coached the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl win in 1976 before becoming one of the most recognisable voices in sports broadcasting and a pop culture fixture through the Madden NFL video game franchise.

The film traces Madden’s rise from his early coaching years to his enduring legacy across television, advertising and gaming. Rather than a traditional sports biopic, the project is positioned as an origin story closely tied to the creation and cultural impact of the Madden NFL games, one of the most successful video game franchises of all time.

Christian Bale co-stars as Raiders owner Al Davis, continuing his reputation for dramatic physical transformation. The ensemble cast also includes Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, Sienna Miller as Carol Davis, John Mulaney as Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, and comedian Shane Gillis in an undisclosed role.

When does Madden release?

Madden is written and directed by David O. Russell, whose previous work includes The FighterAmerican Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook. An earlier draft of the screenplay was written by Cambron Clark.

According to the teaser, the film is set to release on Thanksgiving 2026. It is expected to debut on Prime Video, though no theatrical plans have been confirmed.
