Monday weather: rain clears smog, intensifies cold

WEB DESK: Rain accompanied by strong winds and snowfall in the mountains is forecast for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Monday, while most other parts of the country are expected to experience cold and dry conditions, according to the Monday weather outlook.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast said that in Islamabad and surrounding areas, the weather will remain cold and partly cloudy, with light rain likely during the morning hours.

Across Punjab, cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in most districts. Light rain may occur in Attock, Rawalpindi and Jhelum during the morning, while Murree and the Galiyat region are likely to receive rain with strong winds. Dense fog or smog is expected to affect several districts, including Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Khanewal, Khanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan, particularly during the morning and night hours. Fog intensity is expected to increase in northeastern districts.

In Sindh, cold and dry weather will prevail in most areas. However, fog is likely to develop in Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mohenjodaro and nearby areas during the early morning and nighttime.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to experience cold and partly cloudy conditions, with rain accompanied by strong winds and snowfall in mountainous regions including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber and Orakzai.

Cold and dry weather will continue to dominate most districts of Balochistan.

In Kashmir, partly cloudy weather is forecast, with rain, strong winds and snowfall expected in mountainous areas. Similarly, Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to see cloudy conditions, with the possibility of rain, strong winds and snowfall in higher elevations.
