KARACHI: A petition has been filed in the Karachi District and Sessions Court against the recently released Bollywood film Dhurandhar over its alleged anti-Pakistan content.
Dhurandhar is a Bollywood production featuring Sanjay Dutt, Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna and others in lead roles. The film was released on December 5, 2025 and has been criticised by some quarters for allegedly promoting anti-Pakistan themes.
The petitioner, Muhammad Aamir, has contended that the film has portrays the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as sympathisers of terrorists, describes Lyari as a terrorist war zone, and uses images of late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and the party’s flags without permission.
In the petition, the director, producer, actors and other members of the Indian film’s team have been named as accused, while the relevant police officers have been made respondents.
The petition has been filed under Sections 22-A and 22-B by Muhammad Aamir, who said he is a worker of the PPP.
The petitioner stated that on December 10 he was present at a café located within the limits of the Darakhshan Police Station, where he viewed the film’s trailer and promotional material on social media.
He told the court that by using images of the party leadership, flags and rallies, the film falsely portrays the PPP as supporting terrorism, terming it propaganda that has created hatred and hostility against the party, its supporters and leadership.
The petition argues that the proposed accused are responsible for the creation, production and distribution of the film’s content, which falls under offences including defamation, criminal intimidation, incitement to riots, and promoting enmity among different groups.
The petitioner has requested the court to direct the SHO to register an FIR and to order that the investigation be conducted under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (South).
Earlier, Noreen Aslam, the widow of martyred Sindh police officer Chaudhry Aslam, expressed strong reservations over the ‘negative’ portrayal of her husband in Dhurandhar, announcing that she will initiate legal action against the filmmakers.
Speaking to a private news channel, Noreen said that the film appears to have anti-Pakistan propaganda, which not only misrepresents her husband’s services but also harms Pakistan’s image.
She questioned why the filmmakers chose Lyari as a backdrop and why the character of Rehman Dakait has been exaggerated, when, according to her, Chaudhry Aslam devoted his life to fighting dangerous terrorists.
Noreen said that such negative scenes and propaganda go against the memory and sacrifices of the martyred officer.
