PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice SM Atiq Shah has nominated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi for oath-taking of new members of the provincial assembly, appointed on reserved seats.

Elected members on reserved seats had filed an application with the PHC Registrar after the government members failed to appear in the Provincial Assembly session, for oath-taking. The session was adjourned due to the absence of quorum in the KP Assembly session.

The elected members on reserved seats were not sworn in today, despite the schedule. Afterwards, the opposition members moved the High Court. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had written a letter to the PHC Chief Justice to nominate someone to administer the oath to the members.

The High Court Chief Justice can nominate anyone to administer the oath to the members under Article 255(2). In line with that, the PHC has issued a notification, directing Governor Kundi to administer the oath to the members as soon as possible.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Secretary should also assist in signing the roll of the members, High Court said in the directive.
