ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has achieved a major milestone in digital health, registering over 8 lakh patients in just five months under the One Patient One ID system.
Officials said that the initiative has also streamlined medical processes, with 1.5 million laboratory tests and 220,067 radiology tests digitally recorded during the same period. The system has significantly improved efficiency at emergency counters, where nearly 3.9 lakh patients were registered.
Training of over 2,000 PIMS staff members ensured smooth implementation, while the waiting time for medical reports has now dropped to three to four hours, enhancing patient experience. The daily OPD load has increased to between 5,000 and 7,500 patients, with the emergency department handling an additional 2,500 patients daily.

Under the system, every patient is provided with a unique digital identity, with their CNIC number serving as a permanent medical record number. Officials highlighted that the system allows complete medical records to be accessed at any hospital, reducing unnecessary repetition of tests and improving the quality and continuity of care.
The One Patient One ID initiative is also playing a key role in expanding telemedicine services and public health planning, according to authorities, marking a significant step forward in Pakistan’s digital healthcare transformation.
