WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings of cold and dry conditions across much of the country, with mountainous regions expected to experience particularly chilly mornings and nights.

Fog and smog are likely in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The lowest temperatures recorded include -10°C in Skardu and -6°C in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kalat. Officials say night temperatures in higher-altitude areas may drop further over the next two days.

The department has also forecast rain and snowfall, but only for the mountainous regions for now. The rain and snow will also likely be accompanied by strong winds, especially in Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir starting December 5. Additional snowfall is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan on December 7, while rain and snow may continue in the region on December 6.

Going region by region, cold and dry weather is likely in most districts of the Punjab on Tuesday, including Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas, while it is likely to be very cold at night. Smog and light fog is likely in Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Jhang, Tob Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Multan, Khanewal, Layyah, Kot Addo, Bahawalpur and surrounding areas at night.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, weather will be cold and dry in most districts of the province, while severe cold is expected in the hilly areas at night. Light to moderate fog is expected at a few places in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, DI Khan and surrounding areas at night.

In Sindh and Balochistan, the weather will be dry but will get extremely cold in morning and night hours, PMD said. Residents are advised to take precautions against extreme cold and prepare for potentially difficult weather conditions.
