Punjab govt orders immediate transport fares cut after diesel price drop

LAHORE: The Punjab government has directed all transporters across the province to immediately reduce fares in line with the recent decrease in diesel prices, ensuring commuters directly benefit from lower fuel costs.

Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit, Bilal Akbar Khan, emphasized that the revised fares must be implemented without delay. He instructed relevant authorities to prepare updated fare lists in every district according to the current petroleum prices and to promptly inform passengers of the changes.

“To provide direct relief to the public is our top priority,” the minister stated, adding that strict action will be taken against transporters charging excessive fares. “Any extra amount collected from passengers will be refunded.”

Special monitoring teams have been set up at the district level to oversee fare implementation and report any violations to the government immediately. Bilal Akbar Khan also urged passengers to report any overcharging to authorities so that legal action can be initiated.

The fare reduction is expected to bring significant relief to daily commuters and highlights the provincial government’s commitment to public-friendly measures amid fluctuating fuel prices.
