LAHORE: Tensions flared at the Punjab Assembly during the visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
A scuffle and pushing occurred between the security guards accompanying the chief minister and the Punjab Assembly guards.
During the KP chief minister’s visit, a large number of people entered the assembly premises, causing administrative difficulties and creating chaos.
A tense confrontation and hard pushing were observed between the guards on the assembly stairs, but police and assembly security later managed to bring the situation under control.
The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of security arrangements in the Punjab Assembly and potential challenges during visits by high-ranking officials from other provinces.
Officials said stricter security and administrative measures will be implemented in future visits to prevent any untoward incidents.
After arriving in Lahore, Sohail Afridi said that “oppression is about to end” following his meeting with PTI leader Latif Khosa.
Afridi is in the city to spearhead PTI’s plans for a street movement and is expected to hold a public gathering at Liberty Roundabout later this evening.
A video shared by PTI on X at 6pm showed Afridi’s vehicle being showered with flowers by party workers and supporters as he arrived at Khosa’s residence.
CM Afridi, flanked by Latif Khosa, addressed reporters at Khosa’s residence, acknowledging the party supporters who had turned out in support of PTI.
“They say that the people of Punjab do not come out. But they did — because on February 8, you only had 17 seats,” he said. “Punjab’s people came out because Imran Khan had 180 seats.
“The people of Punjab and Pakistan stand with only one leader: he is sitting in Adiala Jail right now, and his name is Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi.”
