WEB DESK: At least seven worshippers were killed in a bomb explosion at a mosque in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, security sources said on Wednesday.
According to AFP, the blast occurred during prayers, causing damage to the mosque and triggering panic in the surrounding area. Security forces quickly cordoned off the site and launched an investigation into the attack.
No armed group has so far claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Maiduguri is the capital of Borno state, which for more than a decade has been the epicentre of an insurgency led by Boko Haram and its splinter group, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The region has witnessed repeated attacks on civilians, security forces and places of worship despite ongoing military operations.
