Delhi snatched a last-ball victory over Tamil Nadu in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium, with Himmat Singh sending the crowd into raptures after hitting a six off the final delivery.
Chasing 199, Delhi needed two runs from the last ball. Himmat lifted Gurjapneet Singh’s delivery over point. Shahrukh Khan got a hand to the ball, but could not hold it, sparking celebrations among the Delhi players and fans. The drama had peaked a delivery earlier, when a potential run-out threatened to derail their chase.
Delhi’s chase powered by Yash Dhull
The chase began on a strong note with openers Yash Dhull and Priyansh Arya putting together 52 runs in just over five overs. Arya struck a quick 35 off 15 balls before falling to Sonu Yadav. Dhull kept the innings on track with an impressive 71 from 46 balls, featuring four boundaries and as many sixes. His partnership with captain Nitish Rana, who scored 34 off 26, proved crucial before he was dismissed with 28 runs still needed.
Ayush Badoni played a calm and decisive role down the order, finishing unbeaten on 41 off 23 balls to steer Delhi home.
Tamil Nadu set a challenging total
Earlier, Tamil Nadu posted a competitive 198, thanks to aggressive half-centuries from Tushar Raheja (72 off 41) and Amit Sathvik (54 off 40). Despite their efforts, Varun Chakaravarthy struggled with the ball, conceding 47 runs without claiming a wicket.
With this result, Delhi claimed its first victory of the tournament, while Tamil Nadu remains winless. The southern side will now take on Uttarakhand in their third match, also at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
