Nine more indicted in GHQ attack case

RAWALPINDI: Nine more accused of attacking the General Head Quarter (GHQ) on May 9 have been indicted.

Earlier on December 12, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore had also made progress in the jail trial of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in violent protest cases.

The ATC Lahore had indicted PTI Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and senior leader Dr Yasmin Rashid along with others in the case pertaining to the Shadman police station arson and siege case, of the events that happened on May 9, 2023, during the protests that broke out after the then PTI-chairman Imran Khan was arrested.

In today’s hearing, held at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi nine more PTI leaders and activists were indicted. Before this, in the previous hearing held at Adiala Jail, 89 leaders and workers, including the founder PTI Imran Khan have already been indicted.

TODAY’S PROCEEDINGS

In today’s hearing, the court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for 25 accused who failed to appear in the court today, in the GHQ attack case. These included multiple PTI leaders.

Among those 61 accused, who appeared in the court today, included Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The nine more indicted today include former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, former MPA Rashid Hafeez, along with Munir, Khadim Hussain Khokhar, Zakirullah, Azeemullah Khan, Major Tahir Sadiq, Mehr Muhammad Javed and Chaudhry Asif.

All the accused indicted today denied the charges. The court adjourned the hearing until December 19.

A total of 98 people accused in the GHQ attack case have been indicted so far. The total number of accused in the GHQ attack case is 119.

IMRAN KHAN HAS CALLED FOR MAY 9 PROBE

Last week, the Supreme Court of Pakistan approved a plea by Imran Khan, filed by Advocate Hamid Khan for a judicial probe in May 9 events. Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Justice Aminuddin Khan presided over the proceedings.
