Senate passes PEMRA amendment bill

ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Wednesday passed the PEMRA Amendment Bill 2023 after the Minister of Information, Marriyum Aurangzeb re-presented it, following persistent requests from journalists.

The Senate briefly discussed the bill before passing it, dismissing opposition requests to send it to the committee for further discussion.

Aurangzeb while presenting the bill, requested the Senate chairman to approve the bill.

Earlier on Monday the Minister withdrew the PEMRA Amendment Bill, 2023 after several journalist associations voiced their concern.

However, today talking to journalists, she underscored that a year’s worth of effort had been invested in crafting this bill and it will be tabled in the Senate today.
