SEF establishing 200 more NFE centers to retain OOSC

Sukkur (June 13th, 2024): The Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) of the Government of Sindh is expanding its Adolescent and Adult Learning and Training Program (AALTP) by establishing 36 centers in Sukkur and Larkana. A contract signing ceremony held at IBA Sukkur on Thursday.
In the opening remarks Regional Head Sukkur, Maqbool Ahmed Laghari said that learning and training centers will help to retain the out of school children, SEF hope that our partners will create dignified learning environment, create a space of learning as they can love education, these kids should have to enjoy.
Saima Siddiqui, AD AALTP briefed in her presentation regarding the establishment of 200 centers that will cater 30,000 more out of school children who missed their opportunity to get education in formal schools . This will contribute to open 20 centers in Sukkur Region and 16 in Larkana region.
Amjad Hussain, a partner from Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), shared several case studies of AALTP centers. He emphasized that SEF is the only organization in the country actively involved in Non-Formal Education (NFE) and is making significant efforts to retain Out-of-School Children (OOSC).

Commissioner of Sukkur, Fayaz Hussain Abbasi, graced the ceremony as the chief guest. He praised SEF for its commendable efforts in empowering individuals through both formal and non-formal education. He highlighted that the legacy of Prof. Dr. Aneeta Ghulam continues under visionary leadership.
He added that SEF is tasked with establishing new adolescent and adult learning and training centers to help retain out-of-school children. This can be achieved through a sense of empathy and ownership, which are essential for success.
Commissioner shared a personal story from his tenure as Deputy Commissioner in Matiari. During a hospital visit, he encountered a little girl selling samosas. Upon inquiry, he learned that her parents were not financially stable, which is why she was working. He decided to cover her educational expenses, and she has now completed her intermediate education with flying colors. He emphasized that this approach could be effectively applied in our community to support education.

In the closing remarks, Maqbool Ahmed Laghari stated that they have achieved their set targets within the established timeframe. He expressed optimism that the Sindh Government’s commitment to NFE will yield positive results through a practical approach.
