Sindh Education Foundation expands access to free quality education in remote regions of Sindh

KARACHI: Since its establishment, the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF), Government of Sindh, has made consistent and serious efforts to increase access to quality and free education across Sindh, particularly in remote and underdeveloped regions of the province.

The Managing Director of SEF, Mr. Gahanwer Ali Laghari, devised a comprehensive field plan for District Keamari, Korangi, Malir and visited more than local villages.

During the visit, it was observed that each village, union council, and community has its own unique set of challenges and thus requires a tailored approach to educational outreach. A significant number of community members expressed reluctance in sending their children to school. Many parents cited economic hardship and high opportunity costs as the primary reasons, stating that poverty has compelled them to make “economic decisions” rather than decisions based on the “future of their children.”

Mr. Gahanwer Ali Laghari took the initiative to mobilize communities, stakeholders, parents, and children, emphasizing the importance of education and the principle of “Education for All.” He highlighted the various ways SEF is supporting this cause, reinforcing that the responsibility of ensuring education for every child lies not only with SEF and the Government of Sindh, but also with the communities themselves.

Currently, SEF supports over one million students across more than 2,800 schools, including 35 public schools, 223 learning centers, and 125 micro-schools. This is made possible through collaborations with over 1,400 private partners, including individuals and organizations.

The Managing Director also briefed communities on both formal and non-formal education initiatives, reaffirming SEF’s commitment to inclusivity and outreach.

He was accompanied by Mr. Nisar Banbhan, Director Programs and Planning; Mr. Feroz Mansoor, Deputy Director HR and M&E; Mr. Ashfaque Hussain Meerani, Regional Head Karachi; Mr. Muhammad Kashif, District Head Karachi-II; Mr. Sanjay Mathrani, Assistant Director, Advocacy and Communication Unit; and Mr. Furqan, Junior Officer, P&P.
